2019 Year in Review

Wow, i guess i never did a 2018 year in review, but here’s 2019 anyways.

Best Movie

  • The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
  • Captain Marvel
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Pokémon Detective Pikachu
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
  • Toy Story 4
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
  • Zombieland: Double Tap
  • Frozen II
  • Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
  • Spies in Disguise

  1. The Farewell

Honestly last year was a year of just ok movies. I only saw two movies that weren’t part of a larger universe and one was still a spy movie that included Will Smith and Tom Holland, and the other was The Farewell which i only watched last weekend flying to and from Tucson which is clearly the best of the bunch but i’ll probably never watch again.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and a Retrospective

Completing what they are calling the Skywalker Sage the thing i can say most about Star Wars: TROS was that it was a Star Wars movie. Its always a joy to sit in a large theater and get that big opening crawl and Star Wars theme music, and if you throw everything else out of the window its an enjoyable movie, but taken into a larger world the movie and overall the last trilogy was a mess. You could just tell that there were conflicts behind the scenes about the story line and what aspects of Star Wars lore was sacred and which weren’t and that in the end someone clearly wanted to put a bow on top of a hastily wrapped gift.

Best TV Series

5. Game of Thrones
4. Russian Doll
3. Stranger Things (all seasons)
2. Brooklyn 99 (all seasons)
1. The Mandalorian

For what ever short comings the new theatrical Star Wars trilogy, they had seem to fix those problems with Disney+’s The Mandalorian. While i feel like they’re still fleshing the entire story line what they have shown is constraint and consistency in creating a compelling story without having to bombard the audience with a lot of characters or plots that will need to be filled in later, but with a solid foundation of a few characters in a larger universe that we no nothing about and are getting fed information episode by episode. I really enjoy the cinematography and of course there’s Baby Yoda.

Game of Thrones

A disappointment

Binge Mode

With nothing else new i dipped into series from the past that i never got into with Stranger Things and Brooklyn 99 which i devoured like im sure most people did when the shows originally aired.

Best Trip

  1. Disney World
  2. Portland
  3. Las Vegas Invitational

Best Meal

  1. Bavel
  2. Hat Yai

I’m all about this garlicky fried chicken with roti and curry.
