As we get older each year becomes a smaller fraction of our entire lives so it makes sense that it feels like it goes by faster each year. Add to that a new baby to the family and it felt like lightspeed.
Family Highlight
Leela came into the world on May 21st. The second time around we knew a lot more about babies but Leela has been a delight being a happy chubby baby, and Alice has been the perfect big sister to her.
Best Movie
10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
9. Beauty and the Beast
8. Logan
7. Cars 3
6. The LEGO Batman Movie
5. John Wick 2
4. Coco
3. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
2. Despicable Me 3
1. Thor: Ragnarok
With Alice being older she’s much more comfortable about sitting in a theater to watch an entire movie even if she needs to get up once or twice during the movie but this led to us being able to go out to see a few more movies this year. Of course this meant a lot of animated and kids movies but obviously i don’t have a problem with. This year was filled with another plethora of sequels and remakes but i found most of them average, especially the Last Jedi which on first viewing was disappointing but on the second viewing was much more enjoyable. As a Star Wars fan i didn’t care for the slow speed space chase, and about 40 minutes of content that could’ve been cut without any sweat by me, but i really enjoyed the scenes that involved Rey and Kylo Ren. Guardians of the Galaxy lacked while funny, lacked the soul of the first movie, while Thor: Ragnarok had the opposite effect finally taking itself less serious and focused itself on playing with its character’s personality and its visual effects.
Best TV Show
2. Game of Thrones – season 7
1. Master of None – season 2
This year i just wasn’t able to get into much TV for any sustained amount of time due to lack of time or interest. I started watching Halt and Catch Fire, The Walking Dead, Mr. Robot, This is Us, but none of it stuck except for Game of Thrones and Master of None. Game of Thrones season 7 had the most build up since we were finally going to see some big things happen on the show, but at the end it didn’t really blow my mind. Master of None season 2 was great because it really took some different approaches for cinematography and story telling that really brought some uniqueness to a pretty straight forward string of events.
Best Trip
LEGOLAND
We had a really great summer trip to LEGOLAND, specifically their water park where we split two cabanas between 5 families and I got to witness Alice figure out how to hold her breathe underwater and actually enjoy it. That was worth the price of admission.
Best Meal
Club 33
While the food was really good, the experience of actually being able to dine at Club 33 was the highlight of the meal. It also was great because it got alice to eat tomato soup.
Best Game
Clash Royale
I held out playing Pokemon Go into the new year, but only a week into it I deleted the game from my phone more for the fact that i wasn’t interested in Generation 2 characters. What replaced it was suppose to be a tool to just keep in touch with friends became a monster all its own. I happened to see a friend play it with their kids and i just wanted to join their clan and hang out. Then they started to login less so i decided to join another larger clan, and coming up to a year later its still going strong. It blends the right amount of skill and upgrades that keeps the game interesting without having to invest any money into.
