The Big Island

May 31, 2024

In June 2024, quickly after school let out for the summer we boarded a plane to The Island of Hawaiʻi. It was everyone’s first time to this island so we were excited to explore a whole new place. When we landed at Kona International Airport we were greeted with an unexpected dry lava rock field. I was not expecting that compared to the lush tropics i typically think of Hawaii as.

Once we got our rental car, we first made a stop we went to grab breakfast at 808 Grindz Cafe, toiletries from Target, and of course some fried apple pies from McDonalds.

Then went to check into our hotel at the Hilton Waikoloa Village for a 5 nights, 6 days vacation timeshare preview. The hotel is huge, with 3 separate towers that has a tram, and a boat (wasn’t working while we were there) to take you from tower to tower.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out by the pool, exploring the huge hotel, and grabbing lunch at the ABC Store down the road.

Saturday I booked us an Twilight Volcano And Stargazing island tour that would be taking us to a coffee farm, the Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, Volcanoes National Park, and star gazing near Mauna Kea.

It would be an all day tour that went around the island and fed us lunch and dinner. Our tour guide was very good, and had a lot of information about the island and all of the stops along the way. The girls also made some friends on the bus that were staying at the same hotel as us.
